12 Nov Top 5 Fantasy Movies of 2022
In this article from jackpotjill, we will be listing out five fantasy movies released this year.
- The King’s Daughter
Directed by Sean McNamara, The King’s Daughter was this year’s first action-adventure fantasy film that was released in January. The movie follows the story of King Louis XIV (Pierce Brosnan) who, in order to achieve immortality steals a mermaid’s life force. Events after that become complicated when the King’s illegitimate daughter Marie-Joseph (Kara Scodelario) discovers the mermaid. This fantasy movie, though not so strong with its plot and script, had some of the most visually pleasing special effects that kept the viewers engaged till the end. The scenarios used in the movie of the kingdom and the coastline really compliment the periodic fantasy look of the movie. Additionally, the perfect usage of lighting in shots and the special effects of the mermaid and Marie-Joseph’s interactions kept the excitement in the movie.
- Memoria
Released at the cusp of 2022, Memoria is the great Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s first English movie starring Tilda Swinton, Agnes Brekke, and Daniel Gimenez Cacho. It follows the story of a strange Scottish woman, exploring the forests of Colombia thinking about the appearance of weird noises she has started to hear. Memoria requires a lot of patience from the viewers because of its slow nature but comes with an extremely beautiful storyline and cinematography. For many viewers, Memoria seems like reading an extremely long soothing poem; however, remaining confused about the message it delivered. The many shots of the movie are extremely long and quiet; the cinematography is excellent, giving the viewers new camera angles even in those shots to keep them engaged.
- The Princess
Starring Joey King, Olga Kurylenko, and Antoni Davidov, The Princess is the comedy-fantasy movie that reminded many of the cult classic Shrek. Directed by Le-Van Kiet, the plot follows a strong-willed princess who refuses to marry a psychopath and has to fight to save her kingdom. Even though the plot has been repetitively done before this, it still gathered a lot of attention. The comedic yet extremely bloody delivery of most action scenes in the film adds a level of excitement and keeps the audience hooked on the screen. The most appreciated factor of the movie by many is that the princess is not shown as a damsel in distress. She reflects confidence, charisma, and the ability to beat up anyone in her way, courtesy of machine a sous.
- Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Directed by Sam Raimi, who also directed Marvel’s first Spider-Man trilogy, brings more Marvel greatness to the fans by showing the adventures of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse. The plot shows Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) facing a mysterious enemy in the transcendent and confusing multiverse dimensions. This mind-blowing experience is what a lot of Marvel fans were desperately waiting for, and the movie did not disappoint. It was up to Marvel standards, with some of the most exhilarating special effects. Many distorted reality scenes around Doctor Strange kept all fans at the edge of their seats. Additionally, many were extremely happy seeing Wanda, the Scarlet Witch, being included in the movie, too. Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness also built the story for the next Doctor Strange installment that fans just cannot wait for.
- Everything Everywhere All at Once
Directed by Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, Everything Everywhere All at Once stars the legendary Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu, and Ke Huy Quan. It follows the unusual story of an immigrant Chinese woman getting swept up in a twisting adventure and can only save the world by exploring other dimensions. By many fans and viewers, this movie is regarded as the best movie of 2022. Besides its comedic and action aspects, the movie also delivers the most heartfelt emotions through the concept of multiverse. It shows how many things and difficulties in people’s lives can be solved with just kindness. All comedic scenes are such that they will make viewers fall from their couches, but at the same time it also induced tears and shock. The hyperactivity of the movie while showing the multiverse is so chaotically perfect that it keeps viewers glued to the screen. One thing to be careful of is the photo sensitivity of the movie. Viewers with ADHD and hypersensitivity would be advised not to watch it because of the visual triggers.
