Aran sweaters are a very stylish type of sweater, which is often worn to both work and play. The Aran sweater is basically a traditional long-sleeved sweater, which is often made in a thick wool material, such as Merino or cashmere. In most cases the Aran sweater will feature one or two cable stitches across the neck and on the shoulders – The aran is also traditionally a long-sleeved sweater, which has been around since the 18th Century.
Aran sweaters are typically made in a very round woolen fabric such as cashmere. As a result of the Aran being a circular garment, it can be very difficult to obtain a sweater with every single color of yarn. The majority of Aran sweaters are made in black, white and cream fabrics because the Aran yarn is a very popular wool. The hand-knit nature of the Aran fabric means that each fiber will have tiny, individual strands of yarn which can take on a truly unique color and style.
Since the hand-knit nature of the Aran fabric makes it so unique, many different varieties of Aran sweaters have been created – including cable knit versions and some wonderful options can be found from Shamrock Gift. The cable knit sweater is very similar in construction to a typical Merino wool sweater, however, due to the very nature of Aran there is not as much room for additional colors. Cable knit sweaters are made by knitting small sections of Merino wool together, then pressing these sections into a large cable shape. Many of these cables are actually interwoven with several other smaller cables to create a longer and thicker sweater. These sweaters are typically machine-washable, although it may be recommended that you hand-wash the sweater in cold water using a gentle detergent.
